You've found a very lightweight alternative of the Unique Field module.

This doesn't make more as it names: If you set a field to multiple cardinality, you can prevent to save the same value in a multiple field.

This module is based on a constraint, so the validation is powered by Symphony.

Note! This module will be abandoned as soon as the Unique Field module has a stable release.
